Famous Kurdish historian, Karim Zand, dies at 93
Karim Zand, a prominent Kurdish historian, geographer and explorer died at the age of 93 in Sulaimani on Tuesday, Rudaw reported.

Zand was born in Malkandi neighborhood in Sulaimani in 1924. The famous Kurdish historian had graduated from the Teaching Institute in Baghdad.

Zand who started his writings in the 1940s, took part in the Kurdish Mahabad Republic. After its dissolution, he went to the Soviet Union alongside Kurdish leader Mustafa Barzani.

During his lifetime, he had published 30 to 40 books, of which 15 of them were diverse writings on the geography and history fields of Kurdistan.
